Floating down the Battenkill River is one of the Summer’s best experiences. There is nothing like drifting along the river, spotting wildlife and fish, enjoying the subtle scents and sounds of an incredibly unspoiled region. Veronica is quick to point out the natural beauty of the river, and that trash and pollution left behind by uncaring individuals will spoil the river for everyone. Each canoeist who is delivered on to the river is also given a trash bag, with instructions to bring out everything that you bring in, along with any other trash left behind by others. With the effort made by Battenkill Riversports, and their customers, the river is cared for, and cleaned up on a daily basis.
In September, Battenkill Riversports sponsors a River Clean-up, with free BBQ and canoes for all people who attend to help clean the river. It is horrible to think of things like refrigerators and bedsprings thrown into the river, along with bags of household trash and glass bottles. Please come out to help this year, and share in the River Experience.
During this summer, spend a few days camping with the Piekarz’ in the wonderful campground, and take trips down the river, either with a canoe, kayak or tube, plus a delivery service so you can be dropped off and picked up at pre-arranged times.
